David Horton has been involved in construction for more than 25 years. Spending time as a carpenter, and executing other trades, David learned a lot about how buildings can be flawed. Seeking to be part of a solution to this problem, particularly with respect to energy efficiency, he sought out training from nationally recognized organizations, such as BPI, RESNET, GBCI, NCI, PHIUS and others.
David’s training in high performance construction, coupled with prior trade experience enabled him to make other HERS Raters better, in his capacity as a Quality Assurance Designee and HERS Rater Trainer.
After serving as a QAD, & Trainer for a number of HERS and LEED for Homes Providers, David has taken the best things that they all taught him and founded the company, “Quality Training, Precision Inspections”, or QTPI. This company provides training to professionals, as well as quality assurance on buildings. QTPI provides turnkey service to all green building programs, including Energy Star, LEED, PHIUS+, NGBS, EGC and more.
David is currently retrofitting a farmhouse in North-Central Kentucky, in hopes that it can be a net zero energy, organic farm, governed by principles of permaculture and regenerative agriculture. His goal is to provide all things his family consumes from the land they live on, or a body of water that is less than 2 miles away. Where possible, David will deliver any excess to those in surrounding counties where hunger, poverty and natural disasters have decimated the population.
David is also a husband, father, coach, and desperately fighting off father time. He is a mediocre powerlifter and an even worse jiu-jitsu player. David hopes to leave the world a better place than he found it, for his children, grandchildren, and generations to come.
