Phius-certified buildings go through a rigorous quality control process, ensuring safety for the environment and the building inhabitants.
The Phius climate-specific passive building standards guide builders to success in the design and construction of passive buildings worldwide. They provide a quality-and-conservation-first framework for net zero building. They're internationally applicable and grounded in building science, best practices, and the quality assurance necessary to deliver optimal results.
Phius CORE is Phius' legacy certification. It is focused on optimizing investment in passive and active conservation strategies to achieve superior performance and quality construction. CORE targets performance that is challenging but achievable with conservation measures only and has both a performance path for all buildings and a limited-scope prescriptive path for single-family/townhomes.
Phius ZERO is Phius' zero energy standard. It is built upon CORE, utilizing the same focus on passive conservation measures first but sets the net source energy target at ZERO, does not allow for fossil-fueled combustion on site, and provides both on-site and off-site renewable energy options to get to ZERO.
Phius REVIVE 2024 is a pioneering framework for retrofits that prioritizes resilience and decarbonization while maintaining the quality assurance and other core principles of existing Phius standards. The certification process for REVIVE 2024 includes the creation of a range of solution packages tailored to the needs and existing conditions of each project developed utilizing specially designed software tools. The results are projects optimized for carbon and financial cost, making REVIVE 2024 highly adaptable.
The Phius 2021 standards update marks the next step toward making net zero universal and has charged forward in two key areas:
1) New provisions that incentivize building electrification and
2) A prescriptive path for single family / townhomes intending to help facilitate greater adoption.

As always, these standards target the sweet spot where aggressive energy and carbon reduction overlap with cost effectiveness, taking into account a full range of variables including climate, source energy, building size and cost.

Superb indoor air quality is a prerequisite for Phius certification – you can count on a healthy environment.
Superinsulation, high performance windows and efficient mechanical systems create a comfortable, quiet building.
Phius buildings have been proven to be more resilient in the event of natural disasters, such as wildfires and extreme heat and cold events.
The holistic design of Phius buildings and attention to detail in the enclosure make them uniquely built for the long haul.
Phius projects require minimal to no additional upfront costs, while guaranteeing substantial energy cost savings in the future.
